The Dismemberment Plan Is

The Dismemberment Plan The Dismemberment Plan Is Lyrics
1.Tonight We Mean It

Head to toe rayon, don't light a match
We were good and we're starting from scratch
Going to a place that never existed
And probably never will, yeah
Oh, a blue light basement on a throw-down autonomy zone
Where we dim the lights and we're really not that lonesome
Leave your context at home and leave your irony at the door
Tonight we'll even the score
Well, tonight we mean it
When we dance
Well, tonight we mean it
When we cry
Well, tonight we mean it
When we laugh
Well, tonight, tonight yeah, yeah
I know everybody here would love to get down
And to wipe the slate clean new
And do what they want and say what they mean
And eliminate the, uh, existential quandaries of modern, uh,
postmodern reality, ya dig?
No issues! No motives! No problems! No questions!
Just sexy people and purity of intention
Sounds so good, I can barely bring myself to mention
It's my sad, sad invention
Well, tonight we mean it
When we dance
Well, tonight we mean it
When we cry
Well, tonight we mean it
When we laugh
Tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight
I lost my invitation and I don't know where I'm going
I might just drive around and try to listen for something weird
Yeah, you're welcome to come along.
Well, tonight we mean it, yeah!
When we dance
Well, tonight we mean it, oh
When we laugh
Well, tonight we mean it
When we cry
Tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight

2.That's When The Party Started

Fourteen feet tall, and glassy and pale, and covered in soot
I don't know who he was or what he was, the question was moot
I laid in bed, too scared to speak, and watched him watch me
There was no sound but the crickets outside and the leaves in
the breeze, oh
He lit a cigarette and said, Your chimney's a bitch.
I said, Are you old Santa Claus?
And he said, You wish, yeah yeah yeah yeah
That's when the party started as far as I know
I grabbed a hold of it and never let go
And if I saw it well then maybe it's so
Oh, whoa, etc
Later that year, I swear to god, it happened again, oh
I was out camping with my baby and a couple of friends, oh
As we fell asleep I know I saw a light in the east, oh
Spinning around and changing colors with a weird humming sound,
oh
As it got close I felt my sleeping bag rise from the ground, oh
When we woke up I was yards from the fire
Eyes swollen shut, and buried to my waist
That's when the party started as far as I know
I grabbed a hold of it and never let go
And if I saw it well then maybe it's so
Oh, whoa, etc
I know I know I know I know I saw him again
I was out walking my dog and he followed me home, oh
Fourteen feet fall, a pinstripe suit and the same weird shadow,
oh
He was outside for several weeks and then he vanished again, oh
I really don't know what to think after twenty-three years
The only real thing I ever learned is: Maybe it is, if it has so
appeared
That's when the party started--
I grabbed a hold of it and--
And if I saw it well, then
Oh, whoa, etc

3.The Ice Of Boston

Pop open a bottle of bubblyyeah.
Here's to another goddamn new year.
And outside, 2 million drunk Bostonians
Are getting ready to sing Auld Lang Sineout of tune.
I sit there in my easy chair, looking at the clouds, orange with
celebration
And I wonder if you're out there.
Hey! The ice of Boston is muddy
And reflects no light, in day or night
And I slip on it every time
Pop open a third bottle of bubbly
Yeah, and I take that bottle of champagne
Go into the kitchen, stand in front of the kitchen window
And I take all my clothes off, take that bottle of champagne
And I pour it on my head, feel it cascade through my hair
And across my chest, and the phone rings.
And it's my mother.
And she says HI HONEY HOW'S BOSTON?
And I stand there, all alone on New Year's Eve
Buck naked, drenched in champagne, looking at a bunch of
strangers
Uh, looking at them, looking at me, looking at them, and I say:
Oh, I'm fine Momhow's Washington?
Hey! The ice of Boston is muddy
And reflects no light, in day or night
And I slip on it every time
Hey! The ice of Boston is muddy
And reflects no light, in day or night
And I slip on it every time, time, time, time, yeah
So I guess the party line is I followed you up here.
Well, I don't know about that.
Mainly because knowing about that would involve knowing some
pathetic, ridiculous, and absolutely true things about myself
that I'd rather not admit to right now.
Woke up at 3 A.M. with the radio on, that Gladys Knight and the
Pips song on
About how she'd rather live in his world with him
Than live in her own world alone
And I lay there, head spinning, trying to fall asleep
And I thought to myself: Oh, Gladys, girl, I love you but,
ohget a life!
Hey! The ice of Boston is muddy
And reflects no light, in day or night
And I slip on it every time
Hey! The ice of Boston is muddy
And reflects no light, in day or night
And I slip on it every time

4.Academy Award

Playing for the bleachers now
Letting them beat you and showing them how
Dangling yourself from the cross
All out of nails, but here's your hammer, boss
And the Academy Award for ridiculous over-acting goes to you
So get on up there and give us a speech
Taking all the attention away
After your performance, there's no one left to nominate
Dangling yourself from the cross
All out of nails, but, uh, here's your hammer, boss
And the Academy Award for embarrassing melodrama goes to you
So get on up there and give us a speech
Don't forget the little people
Who never were around
And the bigger ones who kept you down
Always knew you could do it...
We always knew you could do it
Jason Caddell!
Don't forget the little people
Who never were around
And the bigger ones who let you down
Always knew you could do it.
We always knew you could do it.
We always knew you could do it.
You couldn't do it without us...
We always knew you could do it.

5.Bra

So, goin' down the Amazon in a red brick boat, uh.
Lookin' for some secret treasurehot with malaria
And I've got that map upside-down
Well, north, south, east, west, X still marks that spot
And I'm so tired; and if I fell asleep, I might not ever wake up
Oh, yeah.
(Various ooos and ohs)
So, goin' down the Amazon in a light pink push-up bra, yeah
You won't believe what I just saw:
A full amazing time, and I've got that map upside-down
Well, north, south, east, west, X still marks that spot
And I feel like Young MC; and if I fell asleep, I might not ever
wake up
Oh, god.
(Various ooos and ohs)
A! E! I! O! U! And sometimes Y. (Yeah! Woo! Yeah!)
A! E! I! O! U! And sometimes Y. (Yeah! Woo! Yeah!)
Why? Because people like you! (Don't like you.)
So, goin' down the Amazon in a light green '57 Chevy, uh.
Well, you think that's, um, kind of heavy?
You should read my poetry
And I've been known to read it out loud
(Various ooos and ohs)

6.Do The Standing Still

Oh whoa-oh, well the pony was funky
The watusi was kinda smooth
Oh whoa-oh, well the problem with all
Those little dance steps was you had to move
Oh whoa-oh, well they found a brand-new step
And it doesn't take anything to get this groove, uh-huh!
And I don't want no standing still...
And I don't want no standing still...
And they're doing the standing still...
And I don't want no standing still...hey!
Oh whoa-oh, well it's a sensation...
Across the entire nation.
Oh whoa-oh, a hundred million kids
All dancing in suspended animation, hmm...
Oh whoa-oh, and the feeling's all right
We'll be standing still until the morning light, yeah!
And I don't want no standing still...
And I don't want no standing still...
And they're doing the standing still...
And I don't want no standing still...hey!
I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed
Oh, my aching head.
Uh-huh!
Oh whoa-oh, in Fargo, six or seven kids
Watched the Plan in a strip-mall
I thought they were bored out of their skulls
But it turns out they were having a ball, uh-huh
Oh whoa-oh, well I finally knew
They were doing a brand-new step everybody isn't moving to
And I don't want no standing still...
And I don't want no standing still...
And they're doing the standing still...
And I don't want no standing still...yeah!

7.This Is The Life

And when they tell you that you don't know what you're doing now
And when they tell you that you're not the one to live your life
And when they tell you that they think that you're just marking
time
And when they tell you that they think that you're in trouble
now
And when they tell you that you're wasting the best years of
your life
And when they tell you that you'll never get a single thing
right
Well, put up a fight
But this is the life
No matter what they say, you know that
This is the life
For better or worse, it'll stay that way
And when they tell you that they think they've got you figured
out
And when they tell you that they think they know what makes you
tick
And when they step with their 12-point program for being like
them
And when they tell you that you're blowing every chance you get
And when they tell you that you're setting up a life of regret
And when they tell you that you just can't get a single thing
straight
Well, it's too late
But this is the life
No matter what they say, you know that
This is the life
For better or worse, it'll stay that way
And when they gather 'round like a covey of witches with their
sneering pity
Tell them sons of bitches
Tell them sons of bitches
Tell them sons of bitches
And this is the life
And this is the life

8.One Too Many Blows To The Head

I don't want to get back into the ring
But I feel like these gloves are glued to my knuckles
And every time, and every time I try to stand up for myself,
yeah, yeah
I start to feel, I feel my knees start to buckle, buckle, yeah,
YEAH!

One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on

And as I step, and as I step, and as I step, and as I step
And as I step, and as I step, step, step into the ring
I see my opponent, he is 10 feet tall and 500 pounds
Yeah, this is getting kind of frightening
And as we knock gloves, and as we knock gloves
And as we knock gloves, and as we knock gloves
He said don't you think your moves could use a little lightning
That's when he turned to me and said, and I quote: 'BOY!
Use a little less whitening, whitening, YEAH!'

One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on

YEAH! a da-dat, a da-dat, a da-dat
A da-dat, a dat-dat-dat-dat, WAAAAA-HUH-UH!

Cause I've got everything I want but losing my mind!
YEAH! l-l-l-la, l-l-l-la, l-l-l-la-da-da-yeah!
Body blow, body blow, knock him out!

Dat-dat-dat, dat-dat-dat, dat-dat-dat
Dat-dat-dat, Dat-dat-dat, dat-dat-dat, YEAH!

One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many blows to the head, yeah
Left me for dead, but still I fight on
One too many, one, one too many blows to the head
Left me for dead, but still I fight on

9.It's So You

I rolled my eyes, burst into tears
And how appropriate can you get?
The details emerged, the anger surged
I got to say I wish we never met
Hey, a party cruise on the River Styx
And I suppose it's just as well
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh, it's so you
A Concorde ride, right to the Pearly Gates
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh, it's so you
You mom was mad at all your friends
And vice-versa. It wasn't cool.
I couldn't read your eulogy
I told your dad we kind of had an office pool
Hey, a party cruise on the River Styx
And I suppose it's the way to go
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh, it's so you
A Concorde ride, right to the Pearly Gates
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh, it's so you
We threw you a big Irish wake
I know that you're Bolivian, but
You always were the biggest fake
We chose the path of least resistance
And most funand most funand most fun
Let the record show that I will fight your legend at every turn
All the stories that were never true and the rep that you didn't
earn
I will do everything in my power to make sure that this little
stunt of yours
Gets you absolutely nowhere
But I guess I'm really talking to myself here

10.Manipulate Me

Hey!

Hey!

Hey!

Hey!

Oh, don't you know
Life is a fantasy dress ball
And if you must come as yourself, well
You're no fun at all
Here's a tip: Just be yourself
But more so
And that's our cue to go
Whoa-oh whoa-oh yeah
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
So, yes or no
Are you in or are you out?
I didn't get all dressed up
Just to fight your self-doubt
Fool yourself and you can
Fool anyone you choose
There's no way you can lose
Whoa-oh whoa-oh yeah
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
What's a line if you don't toe it?
What's the lead if you don't blow it?
I think losing everything could be so therapeutic
What's a horn if you don't toot it?
What's a gun if you don't shoot it?
Just because you fucked it up doesn't mean we knew it, yeah
Whoa-oh
whoa-oh
Whoa-oh
whooooaah
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Manipulate me, oh yeah, c'mon
Hey!

11.Respect Is Due

Well I only call you darling
Cos I know how much it bugs you
And darling, some habits are so hard to break
Think condescension is sexy?
Well, that's your mistake to make
So I learned about my power
And learned how not to say it
And I learned that I have things some people need
And no, I know it's not healthy
But it sure beats giving you the lead
If I ever would let down the walls
That protects me from you
I would say respect is due
But not in this lifetime
So maybe I'd have loved you
So maybe if you loved me
And maybe the Easter bunny exists
It's all the same to me now, dear
Yeah, but don't think I don't have those old lists
Now the guns are tired
Shoot bullets in slow motion
And all the soldiers have all gone home
And that's too bad
'Cos it was such a nice war, dear
Yeah, but it's time to leave well enough alone.
If I ever would let down the walls
That protects me from you
I would say respect is due
But not in this lifetime
Well I only call you darling
Because I really mean it
Don't take my word for it; I wouldn't take yours
And yet I know it's not healthy
Yeah, but it sure beats picking at age-old sores
So bon voyage, my darling
It was real good knowing you
That's French for 'have a good trip,' if you didn't know
'Cos condescension is sexy
And I don't know why, why you wouldn't think so
If I ever would let down the walls
That protects me from you
I would say respect is due
But not in this lifetime
